Permanent Makeup

FAQ's

Lip tattoo is a general term used for these semi permanent makeup procedures.

Both lip blush and lip neutralization are semi permanent makeup lip tattoo techniques achieved by depositing pigments in your lips using disposable tattoo cartridges.

In semi-permanent makeup industry the pmu artists are trying to separate these procedures. Two of them (lip blush and lip neutralisation) are semi-permanent lip tattoo techniques, however the healing process and number of sessions varies.

For light/pale lips we do 1 initial procedure and the top up in 4-6 weeks (some clients may need more top ups if they would like to achieve bright colours or have very stubborn skin/scars). This is perfect for people who want to bring some definition back into their lips.

For dark/cool toned, melanin-rich lips the procedure is very different an requires patience and trust. The procedure is perfect for people who don’t want to apply lipstick every day or want to wake up with lighter fresher lips or cover dark spots from smoking. Our first goal is to prepare the “canvas” for the desired colour, so we’re applying (tattooing) a warm toned colour onto a cool toned lips. The colour mixes with your natural undertone when it heals, so we call it neutralizing or neutralization. It can take 2-5 sessions to achieve the desired results on melanin-rich lips.

Both procedures are similar to the classic makeup techniques. Once darkness and cool tones are gone, the desired colour can be tattooed onto the lips.

Multiple sessions at least 8-12 weeks apart may be required, depending on your desired results, how dark your lips are, how your body naturally heals and how well you follow the aftercare and pre care instructions.

Dark lips neutralization is a multiple session procedure that normally requires two to five sessions to achieve desired results.

Each case is unique and requires a personalized approach.

Results will depend on how light or dark the lips are initially, thickness of the skin, hormones, lifestyle and many other factors.

We will try to achieve a lighter pink or peach colour, however some circumstances we can only achieve a neutral brown colour.

It is important to be patient throughout this process and trust the artist’s experience.

Lip blush and lip neutralisation last between 1-3 years and will gradually lighten and fade over the time. These procedures are a semi permanent makeup and eventually your lips will return to their natural hue.

The results of both lip tattoo techniques will depend on the aftercare, age, lifestyle, hormones and many more individual factors.

It is extremely important to have patience throughout the healing process.

Usually the initial healing takes around 7 days.

Swealing usually lasts 1-2 days.

Peeling usually starts on day 3 and it can last 1-4 days.

It can take up to 8-12 weeks for the colour to stabilise in the skin, only after this time can we perform a subsequent session if needed.

With lip neutralisation, during the healing process, the lips will get darker before getting lighter.

We do recommend:

    • Getting the lip filler before this procedure or in between blush/neutralisation sessions.
    • Scheduling permanent makeup procedures 2-4 weeks before/and after filler injections.

Semi permanent makeup results always look stunning on the lips with fillers!

Do not drink alcohol 24 hours before your tattoo.

Do not consume coffee before your procedure.

Do not take any aspirin or ibuprofen for pain relief (this thins the blood).

Avoid oily fish, garlic and teas to avoid blood thinning.

Please check with your GP if you are on any medication that may cause blood thinning.

Here’s how to get your skin ready your procedure:

    • Do not tan two weeks prior or have sunburned face.
    • Do not have any type of facial/peel 2 weeks prior to treatment.
    • Discontinue Vitamin A/Retinol products before the treatment (and after, during the first week).

If you suffer with Cold Sores the trauma caused by Micropigmentation can cause an outbrake. To help minimise a cold Sore outbrake I recommend getting the Acyclovir tablets and cream. I recommend taking an anti viral tablet such as Acyclovir for 3-4 days before your procedure and continue the course for 4 days after the procedure. Using Zovirax anti viral cream will also help reduce symptoms. If your GP can’t prescribe this I recommend an on-line pharmacy called Dr Fox.

Exfoliate the area (gently, you can use the toothbrush after brushing your teeth) a couple of days before and in a day of the procedure. This ensures dead skin cells have been removed so the pigment is only implanted into new skin layers making it more even and longer lasting.

To Minimise Discomfort:

    • Try to get a good night sleep before your treatment this will help you relax and make the treatment more comfortable.
    • Drink water – this allows the skin to accept the ink more easily, without thinning the blood.
    • Have a good breakfast on the day of your treatment, this increases your stamina as treatments like Permanent Makeup burn a lot of calories.

If you have any allergies – please let us know.

In all lip tattoo procedures you are numbed throughout the procedures with 2 numbing creams, so pain is kept to a minimum. Patients can be more sensitive during the menstrual cycle.
