Aftercare

Healing Well,
Healing Beautifully

Following these aftercare steps closely is the single biggest factor in how well your treatment heals and how long it lasts.

Proper aftercare plays a major role in how your treatment heals and how long your results last. Below is Kate's complete aftercare guidance for lip treatments, covering the first few days through to full healing. You'll also be given a printed copy and a recommended aftercare ointment following your appointment โ€” but this page is here whenever you need a reminder.

Above all, be patient. Healing takes time, and the way your treatment looks in the first 1-2 weeks is not the final result. Don't forget to book your touch-up in advance โ€” ideally 8-12 weeks from your initial session.

Healing Timeline

1-3 Hours After

Wash the lips gently with water and a soap or facial wash that contains no acids or alcohol. Leave the area to breathe for 1-3 hours before applying the provided vitamin ointment.

First 2 Days

Avoid spicy food, acidic foods and excessive heat. Avoid sweating and exercise. With lip neutralisation, lips will appear darker before they lighten; with lip blush, they may look pale and patchy before colour stabilises.

Days 1-7

No makeup on the treated area for 4-7 days. Avoid sleeping on your face โ€” use a fresh pillowcase. Avoid face-down swimming in pools, the sea, lakes or hot tubs for 7-10 days. Continue applying a thin layer of recommended ointment daily.

Week 1 Onward

Avoid sun and sunbed exposure for 3-4 weeks. Once lips are fully peeled and healed (around 1 week), SPF 30 or SPF 50 can be used for protection if sun exposure is unavoidable.

8-12 Weeks

Book your touch-up appointment. This perfects the final colour and addresses any areas needing additional pigment.

Do's & Don'ts

Do

  • Keep the treated area clean at all times
  • Wash daily with a gentle soap and a light touch, drying with a clean tissue
  • Apply a thin layer of the recommended ointment a couple of times a day, so the skin can breathe while healing
  • Apply ointment with a cotton swab onto dry skin โ€” never onto wet or damp skin
  • Keep hair away from your face
  • Use SPF 30 or SPF 50 once fully healed (after around 1 week) if sun exposure is unavoidable
  • Continue any prescribed antiviral medication for 4 days if you have a history of cold sores
  • Be patient โ€” and book your touch-up 8-12 weeks after your initial session

Don't

  • Do not pick, rub or peel scabs โ€” this can cause bald spots, scarring, infection, or pigment loss (some itching is normal as skin repairs)
  • Do not expose the treated area to sun or sunbeds for 3-4 weeks
  • Do not wear makeup on the treated area for 4-7 days
  • Do not sleep face-down or without a fresh pillowcase
  • Do not swim face-down in pools, the sea, lakes or hot tubs for 7-10 days
  • Do not over-rinse or use hot water directly on the treated area
  • Do not exercise or do anything that causes excessive sweating for a couple of days
  • Do not eat spicy or acidic foods, or expose the area to heat, for the first 2 days
With lip neutralisation, the lips will get darker before getting lighter during healing. With lip blush, the lips will look pale and patchy before the colour stabilises โ€” this is completely normal.

General Guidance

You can shower and wash your face as normal, but avoid keeping your lips very wet for long periods. Avoid environments that could expose the healing area to dirt or germs. If you experience any concerns during healing that feel outside of what's described here, get in touch with Kate directly โ€” she's always happy to advise.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions

When should I book my touch-up?

Ideally 8-12 weeks after your initial treatment. This allows the pigment to fully settle so Kate can assess and perfect the final result.

Is it normal for the colour to change during healing?

Yes. With lip neutralisation, lips typically appear darker before lightening. With lip blush, lips often look pale and patchy before the true colour stabilises. Both are a normal part of healing.

Can I wear lipstick during healing?

No makeup, including lipstick, should be worn on the treated area for 4-7 days to allow the skin to heal undisturbed.

What if I get a cold sore after treatment?

If you have a history of cold sores, continue any antiviral medication for 4 days following your treatment as a precaution.

What if my scabs start to peel early?

Avoid picking or pulling at any skin that isn't ready to come off โ€” doing so can cause pigment loss and may pull out deeper tissue. Let scabs come away naturally.
