Following these aftercare steps closely is the single biggest factor in how well your treatment heals and how long it lasts.
Proper aftercare plays a major role in how your treatment heals and how long your results last. Below is Kate's complete aftercare guidance for lip treatments, covering the first few days through to full healing. You'll also be given a printed copy and a recommended aftercare ointment following your appointment โ but this page is here whenever you need a reminder.
Wash the lips gently with water and a soap or facial wash that contains no acids or alcohol. Leave the area to breathe for 1-3 hours before applying the provided vitamin ointment.
Avoid spicy food, acidic foods and excessive heat. Avoid sweating and exercise. With lip neutralisation, lips will appear darker before they lighten; with lip blush, they may look pale and patchy before colour stabilises.
No makeup on the treated area for 4-7 days. Avoid sleeping on your face โ use a fresh pillowcase. Avoid face-down swimming in pools, the sea, lakes or hot tubs for 7-10 days. Continue applying a thin layer of recommended ointment daily.
Avoid sun and sunbed exposure for 3-4 weeks. Once lips are fully peeled and healed (around 1 week), SPF 30 or SPF 50 can be used for protection if sun exposure is unavoidable.
Book your touch-up appointment. This perfects the final colour and addresses any areas needing additional pigment.
You can shower and wash your face as normal, but avoid keeping your lips very wet for long periods. Avoid environments that could expose the healing area to dirt or germs. If you experience any concerns during healing that feel outside of what's described here, get in touch with Kate directly โ she's always happy to advise.
Ideally 8-12 weeks after your initial treatment. This allows the pigment to fully settle so Kate can assess and perfect the final result.
Yes. With lip neutralisation, lips typically appear darker before lightening. With lip blush, lips often look pale and patchy before the true colour stabilises. Both are a normal part of healing.
No makeup, including lipstick, should be worn on the treated area for 4-7 days to allow the skin to heal undisturbed.
If you have a history of cold sores, continue any antiviral medication for 4 days following your treatment as a precaution.
Avoid picking or pulling at any skin that isn't ready to come off โ doing so can cause pigment loss and may pull out deeper tissue. Let scabs come away naturally.
