Kate's specialist corrective treatment — using warm-toned pigments to balance dark, cool or uneven lip pigmentation and reveal a naturally even lip colour.
Dark Lip Neutralisation is Kate's signature specialism — a corrective semi-permanent treatment that addresses dark, cool-toned, uneven or hyperpigmented lips, using carefully selected warm pigments to neutralise unwanted tones and reveal a balanced, natural lip colour. It's one of the most transformative treatments Kate offers, and a service that has built much of her reputation across London's permanent makeup community.
Dark or discoloured lips are extremely common, particularly among clients with melanin-rich skin, and can be caused by genetics, smoking, sun exposure, certain medications, or simply natural pigmentation. While there is nothing inherently wrong with darker lip tones, many clients simply want more colour balance and warmth — and that's exactly what this treatment is designed to achieve.
Using colour theory, Kate selects pigments that sit opposite the unwanted tones on the colour wheel — typically warm corals, oranges and reds — to counteract cool, dark or purple undertones. These pigments are deposited into the lips using the same cosmetic tattoo technique as Lip Blush. The result is a more even, neutral lip base, which can either be left as the finished result or used as the foundation for a Lip Blush colour afterwards.
This treatment is typically carried out over two sessions, allowing the pigment to build gradually for a natural, long-lasting result without overcorrection.
Kate assesses your natural lip tone, discusses your goals, and explains the expected colour journey across sessions — setting realistic expectations from the outset.
With numbing applied throughout, warm-toned pigment is deposited into the lips. Sessions typically take around 2 hours.
Colour settles over several weeks. A follow-up session builds on the first to deepen neutralisation and refine the final tone.

Many clients choose to follow Dark Lip Neutralisation with a Lip Blush treatment once the base tone has been neutralised, layering soft, customised colour on top of the corrected canvas for a complete lip transformation. Kate will discuss the best sequencing and timing for your individual skin during consultation.
As with all of Kate's lip treatments, full written aftercare guidance is provided after every session. This covers cleaning, hydration, foods and drinks to avoid during healing, and what changes to expect in colour as the pigment settles — typically appearing more vivid initially before softening to its true tone over 2-4 weeks. For full step-by-step guidance, see our complete aftercare guide.
No — Kate carefully selects and tests pigment tones to ensure the neutralised result looks balanced and natural, not overcorrected. The goal is harmony, not a dramatic colour change.
Most clients require two sessions to achieve full, long-lasting neutralisation, spaced several weeks apart to allow the pigment to settle between visits.
Numbing cream is used throughout to keep the treatment comfortable. Most clients describe it as similar to Lip Blush — mild pressure rather than significant pain.
Yes. Once your lips are neutralised, many clients choose to add a soft Lip Blush colour for a complete, finished look — Kate can advise on timing during your consultation.
Results are long-lasting, typically 1-3 years before gradual fading, depending on skin type and lifestyle factors such as sun exposure.
